Skirting is a practical thing to avoid damage and humidity to the bottom portion of the wall, and to make sure it is finished well.

But, us designers, can turn anything into art! ;)

Look how chic and elegant this skirting is. Done flushed with the wall with the slightest shadow gap. A very simple detail yet breathtaking!

This can be achieved in a variety of way. Perhaps the most effective is using an aluminum profile after creating the necessary depth into the wall, just like in this mock-up image.
